I was 7 years old. I stood back and assessed the situation. I had just
jumped over a wired fence about 3 feet tall.
That wasn’t tall enough. So, now I tied a rope between two of the posts
thus making the height to clear about 3 and a half feet. I started off slow,
increased my speed and jumped for the moon. I had a rude awakening. My neck
stroke the rope and I was catapulted like a canon ball back to the ground.
Being young and able to bounce back, I picked myself off the ground,
dusted myself off and went about my business. Little did I know that years
later I would pay for that costly mistake. In jumping for the moon I took
the natural curve out of my neck and developed what is called a straight
neck or military neck. This all happened about 50 years ago.
When I was about 30 I went to a chiropractor and was diagnosed as you
would expect military neck. My chiropractor told me that nothing could be
done about it, but he could stop the progression of the straight neck.
He told me I could die by the time I was 60. Well now, I am 58 years old
and those words have haunted me for the last 28 years of my life.
Recently, I started having pains in my neck. When I went to sleep at
night it felt like I had needles in the back of my neck. I had to sleep on
my back in a certain position to get relief. I started doing neck exercises
and that helped. I even went back to a chiropractor. He took x-rays and said
that I had developed spurs on the vertebrae of my neck and that as a result
arthritis had developed. He gave me a treatment and said that he could stop
the progression. I had two treatments but felt that it was doing little
good. His plan was to give me two treatments per week for a month, then one
treatment per week for a month and thereafter a treatment per month.
I search the Internet high and low to find some miraculous cure for
straight neck. None was to be found. However, I did find two web sites that
talked about putting the curve back into the neck. I was really impressed
with one of them. So, instead of going to the chiropractor two times a week
for the first month, I invested in this neck straightened device. By
following directions and using this device everyday for a few minutes I am
slowly but surely getting the curve back in my neck. But, more importantly,
my neck pain is gradually disappearing.
